• On average the weather for going up into the mountains is best in the morning;
• The air is thin at higher altitudes, from about 2000 m up. Take your time to adjust to it. If you plan to visit the highest peaks it's advisable to consult your doctor if you take along children under 3 years old or if you're in poor health;
• A rail pass will get you a discount on many mountain excursions. If you don't have one, you can still get a discount in some cases, with special tickets that allow traveling in the early morning or late afternoon only.
